Are any of you going? This has been one of those weeks where everyone asks something right before I have information. :-) There isn't anything Scribal scheduled to go on in the Arts Camp, but a couple of people have asked me to show them how to cut quills (that's what I get for opening my big mouth! :-)) and I'd like to hang out with other scribely types and work on stuff and chat. It just so happens that the Dreiburgen baronial pavilion (the new one, not the circus tent) is going to be living in my camp, but until Friday night, nobody is going to be living in _it_, so I figure I can have scribe stuff going on in there up until about 5 or 6 on Friday evening. If people write to me offline and vote for the most convenient times, I can just set 'open scribe hours' when we can come and teach and learn and paint and stuff. We'll be centrally located near Autocrat's Point. I know this doesn't help you, Branwen, but I hope the new job makes up for not having any vacation time yet! I forget the lady's name. Can someone tell me who it was, and if she has email access? I have an apprentice who writes icons, and currently runs the only icon guild in Ansteorra, and he's always looking for new references and other folks doing icon stuff.<< The person referred to is Mistress Miriel Gwenddwr Ty Arrannell, who lives in the Barony of Western Seas (aka Hawaii) in the Kingdom of Caid. And yes, she *is* the Icon Goddess - she does reproductions that could rival anything the Getty has. I have her email address but I don't want to post it publicly until I get her permission to give it to you so I'll get back to you, okay? I know right now I'm going to get flamed for this response but there have been times I've taken an assignment knowing I couldn't get the piece done on time. But I wanted to do the piece for someone I cared about. I weighted the disappointment of the recipient when it wasn't done for the event with the joy I saw in their faces when the piece was finally presented. I will admit that I never do simple pieces. A few of the scrolls I have done took six months or more in research, layout configurations and tests. But I felt that the end results were ultimately worth it. My Bayeux Tapestry and the Nutall Codex pieces took months of prep work before I began laying done ink and paint. My signet officer knows this about me and doesn't call me unless she has an absolute emergency... and can convince me NOT to take forever. My vote is a for late scroll that is done properly instead of a rushed piece that the scribe may not be proud of in the end. I'm working on a Book of Kells style scroll and I'm coming up to the point where I need to put those little red dots here and there around things. Any advice to keeping them neat and consistent in size? cheers aliskye ------------------------------ End of scribes digest V1 #16 ****************************
